ASSINIBOIA - Two special Hoops for Hope basketball games were recently played in Assiniboia as a fundraiser.
Assiniboia Composite High School students came to the aid of Willow Bunch resident Keith deRonde in his fight against cancer with a fundraiser basketball tournament.
One game featured the girls team, while the second featured the boys team. The girls played Coronach and the boys played Gravelbourg.
There was also a brisket supper made by Jeff Feeley and served by the Willow Bunch fire Department. The evening was well attended and enjoyed by all.
Hutch Ambulance was also there selling baked goods that they made, and the Assiniboia Kinettes ran the Penny Parade fundraiser and 50/50.
In the weeks leading up to the event, there was also a silent auction and Rocket Nation T-shirts were sold with all proceeds going to the deRonde family. ACHS basketball teams also visited 7th Ave and AES to sell ice cream floats.
The teams had a very successful day raising over $13,854 that will go to the deRonde family to help with expenses through his treatments.
