ALIDA - The Alida community extends sincere sympathy to the Blackburn family on the passing of Ron Blackburn of Regina, who died suddenly on Jan. 13 at the age of 83. He was predeceased by his parents Percy and Rose, brothers Earl and Neil. Ron is survived by his wife Paulette, daughters Kim, Tanya, Lindsay and three grandchildren, as well as his nephews and nieces. A private family celebration will be held at a later date. The Blackburn family lived in Alida and raised their family before they retired and moved in 1971.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Karol McIntyre on the death of her husband Neil, who passed away Jan. 18 at the age of 75. He is survived by Karol, daughters Merilynn Lamport, Nancy Plews, Melissa Byers, and son Bradley, 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sister Karen Wheelens and numerous nieces and nephews. Neil was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Ella, sister Marlene and Walter Baylass, uncle/a Graham and Marion McIntyre, cousin Brian McIntyre as well as his in-laws, including Jim Wheelans. A service to celebrate Neil’s life was held Jan. 24 at Carnduff United Church followed by a private family interment at Carnduff Cemetery.

Jan. 23 was the fourth breakfast at the rink with Kitchen Group 2 in charge. They served up 21 breakfasts, short of defeating the Breakfast Challenge which still remains at 38 set by group 4, but then the weatherman wasn’t co-operating so naturally attendance was low. It was great to see the guys from Redvers attend despite the weather. Next Sunday it will be back to group 3 being at the helm and let’s hope the weather will be nicer too. Hope to keep seeing you at the rink and please remember COVID rules are still mandatory.

The Alida Recreation Board has the homemade pizzas ready now, so please pick them up as soon as possible when you’ve been contacted by a board member. They do appreciate all the support that they received from their fundraisers.

Until next time – stay safe and stay warm.
