ESTEVAN — A traffic stop made due to speeding resulted in an arrest in the Estevan area on Aug. 27.
An Estevan Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) member stopped a vehicle on Highway 39 between Hitchcock and Macoun late Tuesday evening for travelling 154 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone.
A roadside mandatory alcohol screening breath demand was made, which resulted in a fail. The 38-year-old female driver from Estevan was arrested and transported back to EPS for further breath testing, however, she refused to provide samples. As a result, the driver has been charged for refusing to comply with a breath demand. Her driver's license has been suspended indefinitely and her vehicle was impounded. She was lodged in cells until sober and will make a first appearance in Estevan Provincial Court in October to speak to the charge.
Earlier the same day, police were called to assist Estevan Fire and Rescue with a vehicle fire on the east side of the city. A motorcycle had started on fire while being operated and received extensive damage as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported from the incident.
The Estevan Police Service members also responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle driving in a south-side storage container business. Police attended to the area and a traffic stop was made on a vehicle matching the description provided by the complainant. Through contact with the driver, it was determined that no criminal activity had occurred.
Police received several calls about an individual laying on the side of the road on the west end of Fourth Street on Aug. 26. Members attended and found a man in medical distress. Emergency Medical Services was called to assist, and the man was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
A monitoring company also reported an alarm at a business in the northeast area of the city. Police attended, found the building to be secure and did not observe any other suspicious activity.
