ESTEVAN – The Estevan Chamber of Commerce with the Farm Family Committee announced Thursday they are set to celebrate decades of dedication, hard work and community spirit at the 60th annual Farm Family of the Year event.

The event is slated to take place on March 28 at Beefeater Plaza in Estevan.

“This event is an opportunity to celebrate agriculture in the Estevan area and to award a farm family with the distinction of the Farm Family of the Year,” the chamber said in a news release.

Nominations for Farm Families of the Year are open from Jan. 16 until March 1. Typically, this award winner is someone who not only has made agriculture part of their life, but has also committed their time to making their ag industry and/or the community a better place.

The Farm Family Committee is asking for residents and businesses of the area to submit nominations for this prestigious award. The nomination area for this event consists of the following RMs: RM of Estevan #5; RM of Benson #35; RM of Browning #34; RM of Cymri #36; RM of Cambria #6; RM of Enniskillen #3; RM of Coalfields #4; RM of Griffin #66; RM of Moose Creek #33; RM of Souris Valley #7; RM of Tecumseh #65 and RM of Brock #64.

The nomination form can be found here: https://www.estevanchamber.ca/events/details/farm-family-of-the-year-2025-137 at the bottom of the event page. Forms can be submitted to the chamber office, through email or in-person.

This year's celebration promises to be a memorable evening, featuring a delicious supper, 4-H speeches, and two distinguished speakers. The opening speaker, Axten Farms, a multi-generational farm from Minton, will share their inspiring story. They focus on soil health to grow nutrient-dense grains and will discuss the history of their farm, current practices and various value-added ventures.

The keynote speaker for the evening will be John Gormley, a lawyer, retired broadcaster, public policy analyst and best-selling author. Gormley will share insights from his 25-year journey on Saskatchewan's top-rated radio talk show with a speech titled "Lessons Learned on the Radio: a 25-year Journey through Saskatchewan & Life." Gormley is a well-known advocate for Saskatchewan and has been involved in numerous charitable initiatives.

“We’re excited to bring John Gormley in as our keynote speaker for our 60th anniversary. His first speaking engagement in Estevan was at a past Farmer Appreciation Dinner, so it feels full circle,” said Merissa Scarlett, executive director of the Estevan Chamber of Commerce. “As well, John Gormley is a familiar voice to many of our rural and farm community, being on air for 25 years. It felt like a great way to celebrate 60 years.”

Tickets are available for sale and can be purchased through the Estevan chamber’s website at www.estevanchamber.ca. Individual tickets are $45 or they are $360 for a table of eight.

“Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate our farming community's rich heritage and future. We look forward to seeing you there,” the chamber said.
