ESTEVAN – Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Advocates was pleased with the response to its first-ever job fair, held April 16 at the Wylie-Mitchell building in Estevan.

Transition co-ordinator Ojhay Javier said it was the first time the agency had organized a career fair and it was really happy with how it turned out. Job seekers and employers were happy with the turnout, he said.

Thirty-five to 50 people seeking employment attended, Javier said, and 11 businesses, organizations and government entities were present.

"They said they were really happy to be part of it, and they also think the turnout was really good," said Javier.

This was the first time Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Advocates has organized a job fair. Javier said Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Advocates hopes the career fair can become an annual event, and it wants to have more employers involved next time.

The agency might also look at having job fairs in both Estevan and Weyburn.

Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Advocates hosted the career fair in a partnership with the Conseil Économique et Coopératif de la Saskatchewan, a Francophone economic development agency looking to promote opportunities in rural communities.

"We're glad that they reached out to us to help them organize this event, and it's also good for Estevan, because I know Estevan is a strong community, and we want to highlight what is in Estevan as well," said Javier.
