Guilty plea entered in southeast animal cruelty case

ESTEVAN - A Bienfait man has pleaded guilty to causing animals or birds unnecessary suffering, in connection with an animal cruelty case that occurred last year.

Barry Dell entered the plea in Estevan Provincial Court on March 10. He was given a nine-month conditional sentence order and 12 months of probation.

He is also prohibited from owning an animal or a bird for three years.

Background: According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, in November 2024, the Estevan RCMP received a report of an individual injuring a cat near Bienfait. Investigation determined the cat had to be euthanized as a result of the injuries.

Following the continued investigation, the Estevan RCMP arrested Dell in Bienfait on Nov. 15.

The matters for Winston Klassen were also back before the court on March 10. His case was adjourned to March 31, also in Estevan, to be spoken to.

Background: The Estevan Police Service reported in early January that it had been notified of an injured animal in the north part of the city. Members attended and a male was charged with injuring/endangering an animal. He was subsequently charged and released from custody.
