REGINA - The Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games went out with a bang. The Team Sask men’s volleyball team gave us an incredible show in the gold medal game against Team AB. After winning the two first games, Team Alberta took the third. It was a battle in the fourth set and with crowd support, the men went on to defeat Team AB 25-22 making them gold medal winners.
Team Sask also earned three bronze medals in the single scull male, double scull male and the eight with coxswain female events on the last day of competition in rowing.

PREVIOUS DAY HIGHLIGHTS:
- BOX LACROSSE (M): Team Sask played Team MB in a rematch from the preliminary round. They tied in that game 4-4; unfortunately, Team MB defeated Team Sask 9-4, resulting in eighth place for Team Sask.
- DIVING: Ali Cey placed sixth overall after racking up 208.45 points over five dives in 1m springboard female. Jamie Spilchak placed 12th after scoring 201.65 points over five dives in 1m springboard male.
- ROWING: Team Sask had a great day on the water with three bronze medals to show for it. Connor Dodds was the first medalist of the day. He earned bronze in single scull male. The men’s double sculls and eight with coxswain female also had podium finishes after placing third in their respective events.
- SAILING, PARA SAILING: Team Sask placed seventh in both the double handed 29er female (Elisa and Erika Markentin) and male (Isaac Haughn and Jordan Oteruelo) event on the final day of competition.
- SOCCER (F): Team Sask tied Team NL 2-2 in regulation but lost in the shoot out 0-2 resulting in a 10th place finish overall.
- VOLLEYBALL: Team Sask played a tough match in the bronze medal game against Team BC. The women were defeated 3-0. They finish the tournament in fourth place. The men’s team played to a packed house in the gold medal match. They were quickly up 2-0 over Team AB but lost the third game forcing a fourth. Team Sask responded with a win (25-22) to take gold.
The Closing Ceremony took place at Queen Victoria Park in Niagara Falls, ON, finishing with fireworks to end the evening.
Since August 6, over 5,000 participants, 4,000 volunteers and countless visitors have enjoyed 18 sports and over 250 events, including a pair of festivals in Niagara Place and the 13 For 13 Cultural Festival, as part of Canada’s largest multi-sport and cultural event. Team Sask sent a contingent of 377 athletes and 86 coaches, managers, and support staff to the Games.
The Canada Games are heading to Prince Edward Island for the 2023 Canada Winter Games. Only 180 days to go before more Canada Games history will unfold!
