REGINA - Team Sask is pleased to announce that dual sport athlete, Logan Reider (17) of Saskatoon will lead Saskatchewan's contingent as the flag bearer into the 2022 Canada Summer Games Closing Ceremony on August 21st in Niagara Falls, ON.
As flag bearer, Reider will lead a team of 250 athletes, coaches, managers, support staff and mission staff into the Closing Ceremony which will be held at Niagara Falls, ON today, August 21, 2022 at 8pm EST.
Reider is a dual sport athlete for Team Sask. She the captain and point guard on the basketball team and a setter on the volleyball team. During week one, Reider and her team brought home a silver medal! In week two, Reider and her team battled hard for the bronze medal against BC, unfortunately BC won in three straight sets. This September, Reider will be playing basketball for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, previously played three years on the Huskies Volleyball Club team and was on the provincial team for both sports. She was awarded the 2021 GIT MVP, 2022 Saskatchewan Miss Basketball and 2022 St. Joseph High School Athlete of the Year awards. Reider graduated high school with great distinction.
Team Sask also won three additional medals this morning.
Men’s pair Johnny McLeod (20) and Grayson Laycock win bronze in the Lightweight Double Sculls Male event that took place at 11:35am EST at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course.
- Johnny McLeod is from Saskatoon rows on the Saskatoon Rowing Club and the UBC Rowing Club. McLeod represented Team Sask at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games where he won Gold in the men’s pair and men’s four. He won silver in the men’s quad and men’s eight. He placed first at the 2022 Brown Cup. McLeod has won Saskatchewan Rowing Senior Male Athlete of the Year in 2021 and Saskatchewan Rowing Junior Mens Crew of the Year in 2019.
- Grayson Laycock (18) from Saskatoon rows on the Saskatoon Rowing Club. He represented Team Sask at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games. Laycock has won first in the Canadian Secondary School Regatta Association in 2022, first in Rowing Canada National Rowing Championship in 2021, and placed second at the Western Canada Summer Games in 2019. Laycock was awarded the Saskatchewan Rowing Association Bob Ellard Award in 2022, Saskatchewan Rowing Association Crew of the Year in 2022 and the Sask Sport Team of the Year Finalist in 2021.
Pepper Howe, Lily Jedlic, Mya Grace Kelln, Megan Kish, Shelby Lane, Elsa Lissel-DeCorby, Ellen Marion, and Lauren Matai won BRONZE in the Rowing Eight with Coxswain Female.
- Pepper Howe (20) from Saskatoon. Howe just won a bronze medal in the Single Scull Female event earlier in the day and rows on the Saskatoon Rowing Club.
- Lily Jedlic (17) from Regina, SK. Jedlic rows in the Regina Rowing Club. Jedlic won first in Saskatchewan Indoor Rowing Championships in 2021 and third at the 2019 National Rowing Championships.
- Mya Grace Kelln (18) from Saskatoon, rows with the Saskatoon Rowing Club. She has participated in the Western Canada Summer Games in 2019.
- Megan Kish (17) from Saskatoon. Kish rows on the Saskatoon Rowing Club.
- Shelby Lane (20) from Lloydminster. Lane rows on the Saskatoon Rowing Club. She has also competed in the 2017 and 2018 Canada Cup for Softball.
- Elsa Lissel-DeCorby (18) from Saskatoon, rows on the Saskatoon Rowing Club.
- Ellen Marion (19) from Regina rows on the Regina Rowing Club and was awarded the Saskatchewan Rowing Association Junior Female of the Year in 2021.
- Lauren Matai (19) from Saskatoon. Matai rows on the Saskatoon Rowing Club. She has participated in the Western Canada Summer Games in 2019 and the Canada Summer Games in 2017, representing Team Sask! Later in the day, Matai almost won back-to-back medals in the Lightweight Double Sculls Female event but received forth.
