Another silver medal, bronze added to Summer Games tally

Yesterday, Team Sask added four more medals all of which came from the track.

REGINA - Team Sask athletes continue to claim medals during the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

Pepper Howe (20) from Saskatoon won a bronze medal in the Single Scull Female event that took place at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course. Her race took place today at 9:10 a.m. EST. Howe rows on the Saskatoon Rowing Club. 

Bradyn Giraudier (24) from Assiniboia won another silver medal, this time in the Men’s Special Olympic 200m event that took place at Canada Games Park. His race took place at 9:30 a.m. EST.

Giraudier was also a part of Team Sask for the Western Canada Summer Games in 2019 and the Canada Summer Games in 2017. Giraudier competes on the Riversdale Athletics Club in Saskatchewan.  Giraudier’s brother, Kyle (21) is also on the Team Sask athletics team.

Ayva Delaney earned a bronze in the women’s wheelchair 100m, Bradyn Giraudier earned a silver in the men’s Special Olympic 100m, the women’s 4x100m team earned a bronze medal and Savannah Sutherland raced to gold in the 400m hurdles.

PREVIOUS DAY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • ATHLETICS, PARA ATHLETICS, SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Team Sask had a successful day at Canada Games Park. Podium finishes include Ayva Delaney earning bronze in women’s wheelchair 100m, Bradyn Giraudier racing to a silver in the men’s Special O 100m, the women’s 4x100m placing third in a fast race and Savannah Sutherland earning the first gold of the 2022 Canada Summer Games for Team Sask in the 400m hurdles.
  • BOX LACROSSE (M): The men had another tough game today, this time against Team BC. Team Sask lost 5-8 and will play in the consolation final tomorrow, August 20.
  • CANOE KAYAK: Top five finishes for Team Sask include Aysha Sparrowhawk who was in third as she began the last lap of the K-1 5000m. She had a very strong race and just missed out on medal, placing fourth overall. On the men’s side in the same event Nic LaHaye placed fourth as well.
  • CYCLING: Today was a training day for Team Sask as they prepare for the Criterium tomorrow, August 20.
  • DIVING: Team Sask will move from Etobicoke Olympium to Brock University-Eleanor Misener Aquatics Centre to compete in the 1m springboard tomorrow, August 20.
  • GOLF: After three rounds of golf Hunter Kutcher and Darien Herlick sit tied for 12th, they scored 75 and 72 respectively. Ella Kozak currently sits fourth with a third-round score of 75, while Hallie Crozier is sitting in 17th place with a score of 76. The final round will take place tomorrow, August 20.
  • ROWING: Team Sask had a rest day and will be on the waters August 20 and 21 for the finals.
  • SAILING, PARA SAILING: The wind continues to be an issue for sailing. They got a late start, but Paige Bux and Krystle Shewchuk continue to sit second and third in the 2.4m para mix.
  • SOCCER (F): Team Sask defeated Team YT 5-1 in the consolation round. They will play again August 21 on the last day of competition.
  • SOFTBALL (M): It was a tight game start to finish as Team BC tied it up in the top of the 7th. The game went into extra innings and Team Sask was able to come up with the win defeating Team BC 5-4 after eight innings of play. They came up short against Team NL 2-3 in the final game of the round robin. They will play tomorrow in the qualification round.
  • VOLLEYBALL: In a nail bitter of a match the men’s team was victorious after five sets over Team MB. They are off to the semifinals August 20. It was lucky five for the women as well. They defeated Team ON 3-2 to move on to the semifinals August 20.
