REGINA — The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health's weekly COVID-19 integrated epidemiology (epi) report was issued Thursday, June 2 for the period ending May 28, and there are a few things you should know.
Case numbers still heading down
364 new cases were confirmed reflecting 0.3 laboratory- confirmed cases per 1,000 population, that is lower than the 376 new cases confirmed the previous week.
Lab tests and test positivity down slightly
5,667 laboratory tests were performed in Saskatchewan reflecting 4.7 tests performed per 1,000 population. The number of tests was lower than the previous week (6,402).
One in nineteen laboratory tests were positive (weekly test positivity of 5.3 per cent), a decrease from the previous week (5.5 per cent).
Hospitalizations down significantly
Total COVID hospitalized are 232, down 26 from the previous week.
The total COVID adult ICU/ICU surge is six, down four.
Average daily admissions over past seven days is 13: down three.
Total COVID related illness is 68, down 22.
Total incidental COVID infection is 151, up one.
Total patients under investigation is 13, down five.
Deaths still going down
There were 9 newly-reported COVID-19 deaths (12 in the previous week).
Omicron BA.2 dominates once again
The Omicron BA.2 sublineage accounted for 76.9 percent of the variants of concern reported this week, lower than the previous week (87.8 per cent). BA.2 sublineage is more transmissible compared to pre-variant 2020 COVID-19 and BA.1 sublineages, but there is no current evidence of increased severity.
