REGINA - You may not want to venture out onto the highways this Friday morning in Saskatchewan.

Highway Hotline has several Travel Not Recommended warnings in place for much of the province, particularly in the southern and eastern portions.

In particular, all of the roads surrounding Regina have Travel Not Recommended warnings as of 7 a.m. this morning. Most notably, a portion of highway 1 extending from Regina to a few miles east of Moose Jaw is closed due to drifting snow and ice. Also closed is the portion of Highway 1 between Qu'Appelle and Wolseley.

The culprit has been the high winds seen in the province this morning with winds up to 70 km/h wreaking havoc on the roads. In the areas where travel is not recommended, Highway Hotline is reporting zero visibility, swirling snow and snow drifts.

The poor conditions this morning follow yesterday's reports of bad road conditions and a jackknifed semi on highways east of Regina.

Drivers are urged to check Highway Hotline for the latest information and to stay tuned for weather updates today before venturing out onto the highways.
