Results of a vote in the Unity Local Option Area was 287 persons in favour of the sale of liquor to qualifying persons in licensed dining rooms; 39 persons were opposed to such sale and there were two spoiled ballots.
The Canadian Wheat Board announced quota increases, including allowing for delivery of 25 bushels of rye per acre, an increase of five bushels from the previous quota. The rapeseed quota was also increased by five bushels per acre, but could only be delivered to domestic crushing plants, not to country elevators.
Identical bull triplets were born to a 12-year-old cow, bred to a Herford bull, and owned by Phillip Lang of Tramping Lake. Assisting Lang at the birth were neighbours, Syl and Donald Bohn.
Unity Guide Patrol Leader Debbie McCoy received an All-Round Cord from Captain Mrs. D. Dusan. No guider in Unity had ever earned this cord before and it required a lot of hard work and determination.

Retiring after 37 years of dedicated service, Wilkie firefighters Jim Coffee and Ed Elder were recognized with plaques and a special gift from Wilkie mayor Wally Lorenz and Reeve Henry Gutting.
The Unity Kinette Club named Mary Vetter as 2002 Citizen of the Year.
Unity Composite High School athletes moving on to provincial track and field were Cory Grant (javelin), Alex VanDeMeutter (100 metres, 200m, 400m, long jump, 4x100m, 4x 400m), Amanda Frantik (high jump), Courtney Maze (300m) and Hazen Chung (400m).
