UNITY -- The healthy food trend is continuing with a new business opened in Unity.
June 3, at the start of western days weekend, Unity residents got a chance to see and experience a brand new business — Fig and Berries Juice and Smoothie Shop. The business is located on the 300 block of Main Street and offers healthy treats and juices.
Co-owner Adam Heisler says, “We moved to Unity in March of last year and got possession of our house in May. The reason we decided to move to Unity is because I received a job offer with CP rail out of Wilkie.”
Heisler is a Canadian Armed Forces veteran, serving as an artillery soldier for eight years, stationed in Shiloh, Man. Following his service in he moved back to Oshawa, Ont., having grown up in Niagara Falls.
A layoff from CP rail resulted in a new job search.
Heisler says, “During that period, I noticed how much people were looking for something healthier. When the Booster Juice trailer rolled into town, that is when the light bulb went off.”
Heisler went home to his wife, Rosalin, and told her his idea and she was on board right from the start. The couple started researching everything about juice bars and smoothie shops, and everything in between.
The duo proceeded with business plans that included registering their business name and they were fully committed.
“We found Unity to be a great little town with a lot to give, and we thought this is the place we want to raise our family and grow old in,” adds Heisler.
The business will offer grab-and-go juices, bottled fresh every day as well as made-to-order smoothies for all ages. Down the road, the Heislers plan to introduce fruit salad, house salads, and homemade salad dressings. Their opening on June 3 included a steady stream of customers wanting to check out and experience the new downtown business.
The Heislers say in their spare time they enjoy travelling, camping, hiking, enjoying their three-year-old son and making the most of life. Adam’s mom was on hand to help with their official opening and to help get them started in their new business venture in Unity.
