UNITY - The Unity Skating Club is fortunate to have the long-time experienced coaches and they are now to be joined by a new member
Colleen Smith has served 30 years with the organization. Michelle Brown-McLean is a 23-year veteran of the club. Joining them is a new coach from Quebec, arriving this month or in January. She is moving to town with her partner who will be stationed with the RCMP.
The club has 40 kids registered in the Can Skate program this year. The senior skating program includes 23 skaters. USC has two graduating skaters this season with Devyn McLean and Raicky Baes.
Coach Brown-McLean says, “We will be hosting a small Christmas party for our star skaters this month. We were hoping to host a test day in December as well, but with a shortage of evaluators in the province, this will not be possible.”
Presently, and knowing plans may have to change or evolve, the annual ice carnival is set for March 6 in the afternoon.
Unity Skating Club has a long history in the community and offers another winter sport option for children and youth. It has also provided a great developmental start for kids going into the first stage of the hockey program. Unity is fortunate to have the commitment of long-term coaches for this program, as well as an executive that works to manage the season.
