UNITY — Put a Grand in Your Hand will be a little different this year; there will be only one bucket for the draw and it will be moved from business to business daily.
This long-standing Christmas promotion, sponsored by the Unity and District Chamber of Commerce and participating businesses, offers shoppers in Unity the chance to win $1,000 as a “thank you” for shopping locally.
In previous years, all participating stores had a Grand in Your Hand draw bucket for the entire promotion period. This year, in hopes of perhaps helping some residents and visitors discover businesses they don’t normally frequent, the bucket will be at only one location each day.
To help draw attention to the Grand in Your Hand bucket, it will be accompanied by a large Christmas nutcracker, donated by Carey Baker. The Unity Chamber has dubbed the nutcracker “Carey” in recognition of his work and support for Grand in the Hand in past years.
Along with hosting Carey the Nutcracker, each retail business is offering something special for shoppers on the day they have the Grand in Your Hand bucket.
Carey the Nutcracker and the Grand in Your Hand bucket started their journey at the salt plant, for a special Compass Minerals employee day Nov. 25, and are kicking off their retail adventures today, Nov. 26, at Unity Motor Products. Residents will be able to enter Put a Grand in Your Hand at all or any of 14 more businesses taking turns over the next three weeks, up to and including Dec. 16.
For a complete list of participating businesses and their special deals, please see the ad in the Wilkie-Unity Press-Herald and follow Unity Stories on Facebook.
The draw for one lucky shopper will be made as part of Winter Wonderland festivities, Dec. 16.
