UNITY ‑ Unity and District Museum has struggled to find ways to fundraise during the pandemic.
A popular live green gnome fundraiser last year will be undertaken again this year, thanks to support from Hollyhock’s Greenhouse. Committee members helped build the gnomes and residents can purchase them through the greenhouse with the museum benefitting from the proceeds. It is hoped residents will once again decorate business core and residences with these delightful characters as their way to help support the museum.
The UDHM is bringing back Sunday pancake brunches, with the first Sunday in December being the first. This organization says they will be following all dine-in protocols imposed on restaurants ‑ proof of vaccination or negative test result will be required. Something new this year will be the option for takeout orders, providing purchasers bring their own containers.
The committee has been informed the town has sold property to the Ministry of Highways that will eliminate the place where machinery row is currently situated. Presumably this action was part of the construction of the rerouting of Highway 21 away from residential areas. This means the museum committee now must move this display elsewhere. Orchestrating a plan to redisplay the equipment will keep them busy the next few months.
The museum committee is also in the planning stages of a Family Day activity on Feb. 21 and details will be announced once plans are firmed up.
