UNITY — Eleven pilots and their passengers braved the strong east winds June 5 to fly in to Unity airport and enjoy a coffee and doughnuts with members of the Unity Flying Club.
A number of the visitors hailed from Saskatoon, with others coming from Lloydminster, Neilburg and Maidstone.
Local visitors also came out, in their vehicles, to see the airplanes and watch some takeoffs and landings. Reigning rodeo queen Taelyn Wildeman, before passing on her crown later that afternoon, enjoyed an airplane ride from Robert Smith, president of the Unity Flying Club. Smith warned her it would be a bumpy ride, due to the strong winds, but nevertheless Taelyn said she thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Unity’s airport hosts a wide variety of pleasure and work aircraft, including crop sprayers in season and the air ambulance when needed.
The flying club was formed in 1968 and is looking for new members and people to be on the executive. Contact a local pilot if you are interested in aviation.
