UNITY - Dec. 3-5 weekend, local teams in the Sask. West Hockey League played regular season games in their schedule and the results show some separation in the standings.
Kerrobert Tigers went down in defeat at the hands of the Unity Miners Dec. 3. Dalyn McCubbing potted a hat trick for the Miners in the win. The weekend was not a great one for the Tigers as the lost their second game of the weekend to the Hafford Hawks. Without a win this season, according to the SWHL website Dec. 5, the Tigers sit in the basement of the standings. Two, two-game weekends are upcoming for Kerrobert and the team hopes they can gain some traction before the Christmas break.
Macklin Mohawks had a one-game weekend but were defeated by the top-spot Edam 3 Stars. The SWHL website shows Macklin in third place in the league standings. The team will be back up for a two-game weekend Dec. 10 playing the Outlaws and the Tigers on Dec. 11. The last game before Christmas will take place Dec. 18 vs the Klippers.
Unity Miners, in a home-and-home weekend, beat Kerrobert in a Friday night game Dec. 3, with Dalyn McCubbing potting a hat trick for the Miners in the win. Dec. 3 was not a great showing for the mine men as the Biggar Nationals pummeled them 10-3. The Miners have only one game on tap Dec. 10 weekend on the road and play and home-and-away series with the Wilkie Outlaws Dec. 17 and 18 before they have a brief break for Christmas. As of Dec. 5, the Miners sit in sixth place in the standings.
Wilkie Outlaws were tied for first in the league standings and look to remain in the win column for the remainder of games this month before taking a brief Christmas break. The Outlaws captured the win against the Kindersley Klippers in their teddy bear toss night, benefitting the local Christmas hamper program. The team headed to Edam for a Sunday game, and as community correspondent Phil Heilman said, “It was a battle for undefeated and top spot supremacy in the SWHL.” Wilkie handed Edam a 9-3 loss.
The Outlaws have one game on tap for Dec. 10, then the team will finish the first half of the schedule with the familiar rivalry of a home-and-away series against the Unity Miners. Rory Gregoire and Brock Harrison from the Outlaws are sitting in the top five league scoring leaders.
