Solar Panel project progressing as SaskCan events centre readies for opening

Successful pool season and now its on to rink season, with some upgrades being done

WILKIE - With the summer quickly ending around the community of Wilkie, farmers are hustling in the harvest season.Remember safety first everyone!

The Wilkie community swimming pool wrapped up their season. The annual water show was a job well done. The lifeguards, pool staff and recreation director are commended for organizing the show and getting the pool open after a year of uncertainty. A new boiler for the paddling pool was donated byTravis Thompson of TNT Plumbing and Heating. The Wilkie Elks purchased passes for the paddling pool.

Upgrades to the Ice plant at the Wilkie Saskcan Community Centre are on schedule and almost completed. The arena will be ready for the2021-22 hockey season. Another addition to the community centre is the solar panel project for the roof at the complex, which is progressing well. This project was approved by council and is funded by grants from the governments of Canada and Saskatchewan through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

Wilkie Recreation Board has been planning events and the Louisiana Hayride will be performing in Wilkie this November. Tickets will be on sale in September.

With our province reopening I would like to remind everyone to still do diligence in keeping communities safe. Together we can beat this. School buses will soon be on the road, please watch for children and be mindful of the rules when in the school zone.
