WILKIE - Construction started on a new group home in Wilkie just nine months ago, making way for an exciting day Aug. 25. Group home residents were joined by community members, Town of Wilkie representatives and dignitaries as they celebrated the grand opening of this new residence for five Prairie Branches clients located at Wilkie.
The new five-resident home will operate 24/7 and have roughly 12 staff working shifts.
The Saskatchewan government will provide more than $295,000 annually to Prairie Branches to assist with operations of the home.
MLA Ryan Domotor was on hand representing Social Services Minister, Lori Carr, and expressed thanks to Prairie Branches for their commitment to providing quality services for people with disabilities.
Prairie Branches currently supports 31 people living in group homes, 14 people in their supported living program and 48 individuals in day programs throughout the communities of Biggar, Kerrobert, Unity and Wilkie.
“This new group home was designed so the residents are able to support themselves as much as possible, ranging from placement of light switches and beds to the architecture of showers,” says Prairie Branches Executive Director Eunice Washkowsky.
Washkowsky adds that this wonderful addition to their agency will assist in providing exception quality of life for the residents there and she adds their appreciation of the community of Wilkie being chosen as a priority for a replacement home.
From the Prairie Branches website, “With support and partnership from Community Living Service Delivery, SARC and SaskHousing, we are proud to make a difference in this sector, this community and this agency,“ says Washkowsky.
