Santa’s Sleigh has a ring to it

A memorable Christmas made with boxes, gingerbread and love.

My sister and I decided one year to go in together to get our mom a family ring. We worked together to organize the birthstones and had it perfect. We originally wanted to play the box in a box gag with this gift, as our mom is worse than a kid around Christmas time when it comes to gifts.

Ashley was working at the Delta Co-op Home Centre at the time, so she had plenty of access to multiple sized boxes. I had also decided to be over ambitious and created a gingerbread sleigh with Santa and reindeer and that is where I got the idea. I sewn up a little red bag just big enough to sit in the back of the sleigh, which will hold a couple ring sized boxes.

Ashley and I conspired once again. She had already set aside a bunch of boxes, so we decided to have fun with both gags. We put a slip of paper in the smallest of the boxes, filled each of the empty boxes with a nut or bolt and wrapped them up nicely. On Christmas Eve, I had to send all the gifts and the gingerbread creation out to the farm with my family, so mom was holding onto the sleigh the whole way home.

Christmas morning came and of course mom could not wait to see what the big gift under the tree was for her. With each new box to unwrap, she was more and more eager to get to the bottom. She finally reached the last box and was disappointed to find a slip of paper that read “The box in the box was just a gag, find your gift in Santa’s bag”.

She shot up out of her chair, ran upstairs as fast as she could and brought the little red sack back to the tree. She shook each box and finally found the ring box inside. She pulled out the ring, put it on immediately, started to cry telling us how beautiful it was, followed by cursing us out for putting her through that whole ordeal!
