UNITY— The holiday season is soon approaching and with the continuing strike action at Canada Post, there could be some uncertainty wrapped under the Christmas tree this year.
Children of all ages have been getting their wish lists ready for Santa Claus, however delivery of the letters may take a while.
“We will gladly accept the letters for Santa, but we cannot mail them out until the strike is over,” said Unity postmaster, Karen Fell.
Fell did add that some smaller post offices that are currently closed throughout the strike would not be able to accept letters to Santa, thus making it unfair to those children. Because of this reason, Santa has decided to work with Canada Post and wait until everyone can send in their letters.
“Christmas is about celebrating peace on Earth. I do not feel right accepting handwritten letters until there is peace between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers,” said Santa.
Both Fell and Santa said once the strike has been lifted, letters will be delivered to the North Pole where the elves will get busy on making the gifts and Santa will start responding to each boy and girl.
Santa did say Canada Post has been helping him with his letter delivery for the past 40 years and hopes a resolution comes to an end soon so everyone can enjoy their holiday this year.
