MACKLIN -- The strength of the Macklin Lakers has carried over into the new league they are playing in as the team captured the Battle River Baseball League championship in their first year as part of the league.
Facing off against the Veteran Bulls, the Lakers started Regan Feser on the mound.
The score remained tied heading into the third inning when Jared Hillis promptly took an 0-2 pitch to the field earning him a home run.
A 1-1 tie meant the game would go into extra innings. Veteran was unable to score any runs in the eighth. The Lakers put two men on base and the situation became worrisome as a strong Bulls relief pitcher, struck out the next two batters. Cody Gartner was credited the game’s hero as he hit a long line drive to centre field making for a walk off win for the Lakers.
Macklin knows this was great preparation for their provincial quest that will take place Aug 11-13 in Regina for the Senior AA Tier 4 Baseball Sask. title.
