Wilkie committees are in place to direct fundraising for a new pool and a daycare centre.

WILKIE — I would like to welcome everyone to 2024, which brings with it a cold front. While some of us maintain a disdain for the cold, others look forward to the different aspects of winter such as sports or sledding. The Wilkie Outlaws senior hockey club is off to a great start with a 15-0 record. Let’s hope they can keep the momentum up for the playoffs.

As the first signs of winter are upon us, I would like to give credit to our public works crew for doing a great job of clearing streets.

It is both a municipal and provincial election year so good luck to all involved. I would like to welcome our newest member of council, Ben Workneh, who won the byelection by acclamation. Ben is the manager of The Rack fertilizer plant at Thackeray. I look forward to working with him. Soon we will be having meetings to discuss the annual budget for 2024-25.

I would invite members of the public to come forward and help with the fundraising efforts of both our new swimming pool and the newly formed daycare centre committees. Announcements on both projects will come soon. Please come out and share your talents as these are both important projects for our community.
