WILKIE — The inaugural Bill Cey Memorial, “hardest working local player,” award has eight worthy nominees submitted and the winner will be announced mid February says Sask. West Hockey League president Joe Cey.

Tyler Baier of the Macklin Mohawks was nominated noting he has never missed a practice, is on the club executive, coaches the U9 team in Macklin as well as runs a power skating session for youth. Baier was referred to as a dedicated, inspiring player.
There was plenty of great details included with the Unity Miners nomination for Nolan Acton. Acton has been part of the team for more than six years, as well as a couple of games played when he was in U18. Acton was recognized for showing up for all practises, road games and home games, bringing all he’s got with each appearance. He will always be there to load and unload equipment for road trips, always takes part in the Winter Wonderland street hockey event, also helping at the rodeo days barbecue and whatever else he can to promote the team in the community.
The Wilkie Outlaws nominee is Andrew Herle noting he gives 100 per cent effort every game. Even when injured he came to the Outlaws games, providing support in the dressing room and in the stands, He and his family are involved in the community.
Kerrobert Tigers nominated young Avery Cholin. Even with farm commitments and apprenticing with SaskPower, he commits to driving on his own to as many games as he can. His effort on the ice is always 100 per cent, as he has a passion to succeed. The team says in the nomination, “Avery plays a hard-nosed, fast, physical game that reminds us of better years of the sport when not everyone felt like they were a toe drag specialist and has the release like Connor McDavid. He is our hardest working player and is local.”
Other nominees to round off the eight include Edam 3-Stars Mitch Wall for serving as team captain for 15 years with many accolades listed, most notable stating ,as far as the team goes, “Mitch is 3-Star hockey. To thank all the kids for supporting the team he bought 100 mini sticks with 3-Star logos and handed them out at the last game.”
Biggar Nationals nominated Derek Argue, team captain, assistant coach and team leader. Argue was noted for a number of contributions both on and off the ice.
Hafford Hawks nominated Kobe Kindrachuck, stating, “The team knows exactly what they are going to get from him, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to win.”
Kindersley Klippers nominated their 40-year-old veteran captain, Troy Boisjoli, playing in his 15th year of senior hockey, stating he is the heart and soul of their senior team.
Cey, adds, “If you put this group together in one team, they wouldn’t lose very often.”
