Bright lights installed along Highway 31

Pedestrians will be safer going across Highway 31 at Luseland due to grant funding.

LUSELAND – Drivers who travel along Highway 31 through Luseland will notice new signage along the road and maybe some flashing lights.

The Town of Luseland applied for the SGI Provincial Traffic Safety Fund grant, receiving $12,621 which covered the entire cost of the project. The community has received funding from this grant previously in other years, creating safety throughout the town.

Town Administrator Krystal Bazylinski said the safety of residents and visitors to Luseland is of the utmost importance.

“We have a lot of people cutting across the highway to attend activities at the Luseland fairgrounds and ball diamonds. Our minor ball teams exploded this year so having these new lights will help ensure drivers and pedestrians can co-exist without anyone getting hurt,” said Bazylinski.

On June 27, employees with Fox Canada were able to install the signage and light, with heavy rainfalls taking a break long enough for the work to be completed. The Department of Highways will have to put up other signage to make drivers aware of the new crossing as well as repainting the designated area at a later date.
