SASKATOON — Treyton Pernitsky, second-year veteran with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies track and field team, has earned a silver medal at the Can-West championship held in Winnipeg March 18-19. Pernitsky’s win earned him a spot at nationals upcoming in St. John’s N.B.
Pernitsky also competed in the 1500 metre and 3000M races, missing bronze by .01 of a second in both races. The silver medal was earned in the men’s 4 x 800M relay.
Prior to the 2022 Can-West event, Pernitsky was ranked 11th in 1500M and ninth in 1500M, however these finishes have bumped him to fourth ranking in both.
In his third year of University, Pernitsky is only in his second year of eligibility so has three more years left to compete. He is currently studying finance at Edwards School of Business and tells the Press-Herald / SASKTODAY.ca he is currently ahead in his studies so plans to use the extra time/years of eligibility to take earn MBA and masters certificates in clean energy financing.
“My marks are great and being busy helps me stay focused on all my goals, … academic, athletic and professional,” Pernitsky says.
“It’s been an emotional weekend. I did not expect to run the placings or the times that I did but I left it all out there this weekend. I was quite upset after losing two championship medals by 0.01 seconds each but it is a part of sport and my team and my competitors really supported me on my accomplishments."
Pernitsky says he is excited to go to New Brunswick March 25 weekend to compete with his team and then will look forward to begin building for his next season.
