Walter Bieber defeated challenger Peter Matwychuk to win a third term as mayor of Wilkie. Returning officer Bob Tyler said over 50 per cent of eligible voters turned out to cast their ballots.
Si Campbell topped the poll in the election of Town of Unity councillors. Also elected to council were Emil Wiesner and Sallie Young. Defeated were Madge Leeson, Stan Halstead and John Kraft.
Unity Separate School Board trustees elected were Wm. Solohub and Gladys Kelly, with Ed Volk defeated. Meanwhile the Macklin School Board was still looking for trustees and had to re-issue a call for candidate nominations.
Wilkie Kinsmen Christmas trees were available at Ed’s Auto Body, with prices ranging from $2 to $5.

Unity residents Harvey Housen and Leonard Boxell were among just 45,000 Canadians to receive Golden Jubilee Medals. The medals were presented in front of a large, appreciative crowd at the United Church CE Building with each man receiving a lengthy standing ovation.
Denzil Sacred Heart School Grade 7 student Mandy Kuhn was the grand prize winner in the Saskatchewan Labour Farm Safety Poster Contest. Over 2,500 entries were received from students in kindergarten to Grade 9.
Cut Knife resident Marion Blain won $51,706.40, matching six regular numbers and the bonus number in a Super 7 lottery draw. She had purchased the Quick Pick ticket at Broad Street Coffee Shop in Cut Knife.
St. George School in Wilkie filled and sent 44 shoeboxes to other countries as part of Operation Christmas Child.
