Wilkie’s Isaiah Mamer, 2022 Sask Volleyball 18U Male Athlete of the Year

2022 has been a stellar year for McLurg graduate, Isaiah Mamer, that also now includes 18U Male Athlete of the Year award from Sask. Volleyball.

SASKATOON — Saskatchewan Volleyball announced a number of award winners for the 2022 season and the list included Wilkie’s Isaiah Mamer.

Mamer is in his first year at the University of Saskatchewan also playing with the U of S Huskies men’s volleyball team in his first season, after being signed in the latter part of his Grade 12 year. He had a stellar year with a number of big accomplishments achieved.

Sask. Volleyball says, “Isaiah is the exemplar for hard work, passion, dedication, commitment and high-performance skill in an athlete. As someone who excels in any sport he plays, his 18U club season on the HHVC Block Busters was no exception.

“Isaiah routinely proved his dominant physicality and skill as he attacked around, through and over many blocks in Saskatchewan last club season. He led the HHVC Block Busters to an undefeated season at the 18U men's level in the province. The team swept Sask Cup 1, Sask Cup 2, and provincials to put their season in the history books. Isaiah led his club team to an eventual 10th place finish at club nationals in Edmonton.”

Mamer was named to Team Saskatchewan men’s volleyball team in the spring of 2022 and was a mainstay on the court and an integral part of Team Sask. winning a gold meal at the Canada Cup in Calgary in July.

Sask. Volleyball said three weeks after the Canada Cup victory, Mamer was in Ontario at the Canada Games representing his province once again. His timely kills and blocks, coupled with his tenacious defence all throughout the tournament, proved he belongs with the best players in the country. Isaiah and his teammates toppled Manitoba in five sets in the quarter-final and swept Ontario in three sets in the semifinal. Playing Alberta in the final, Mamer put the final point away with a thunderous, cross-court kill, giving Saskatchewan their first volleyball team medal at Canada Games since 1987.

“I can't think of anyone more deserving for this award than Isaiah Mamer. His Grade 12 season, and the summer that followed, serves as inspiration to the next generation of volleyball athletes in this province,” said Aaron Demyen of Sask. Volleyball.

Mamer’s 2022 also included being named Wilkie’s Junior Citizen of the Year along with multiple medals won in his last year of SHSAA provincial track and field.
