Twenty-five calls, 12 training and practice sessions part of 2022 for WDFD

The Wilkie and District Fire Department held anannual open house on Oct. 12 as part of Fire Prevention Week activities.

WILKIE — Wilkie and District Fire Department member and communications contact Dylan Gillespie provides these details from activity that was part of 2022 for the WDFD team.

Wilkie community volunteer fire department participates in training all year long to be prepared for whatever emergency call they receive. For 2022, training included: NFPA Certification; Low Angle Rescue NFPA 1006 (weekend); Vehicle Extrication NFPA 1006 (weekend); Flashover NFPA 1403 (weekend); ICS 100; Wild land NFPA 1051 (weekend); Pump Operations NFPA 1002; Instructor Level 1’ CPR/1st Aid; Traffic Incident Management; and Incident Response.

Public education is also something WDFD members are part of and that includes the annual open house, public education in the schools, community engagement that included participating in the Terry Fox Run.

Also this year, Craig Sittler competed in the Fire Fit competition and earned a silver medal. WDFD members also enacted building fire inspections as well as fire extinguisher training for the public.

Calls for service so far in 2022 for WDFD totaled 25 and included: five motor vehicle accidents; one EMS assist; seven alarms calls; two structure fires; one vehicle fire; four grass fire; one mutual aid (grass fire) call. one STARS landing; one high angle rescue; one trash bin fire; and one combine fire.

Oct. 12, WDFD members served up supper as part of their annual tradition of open house at the Wilkie Fire Hall in recognition of Fire Prevention Week, stating a great crowd supported their event and came out to meet their community firefighters.
