UNITY - The Press-Herald readership area was affected by several power outages the evening of April 26 and the early morning of April 27.
SaskPower media spokesperson, Joel Cherry, responded to the Unity-Wilkie Press-Herald and SASKTODAY.ca saying, “Approximately 22,000 customers were affected by outages overnight and this morning in the Unity, Kindersley, North Battleford and Rosetown areas. As of 7:35 April 27 all outages have been resolved. “
Cherry adds, “The widespread outage was the result of transmission lines tripping off. Transmission outages tend to affect a larger geographic area since they feed the local distribution systems. We are investigating the root cause.”
Some residents say when they called to report the outage, they received a message saying that call volumes were high and would have to try back at a later time.
Outage maps were being shared on social media showing how widespread the outages were, and those customers that receive text alerts say it was noted that the outage was reported in all towns and areas west of Saskatoon, north of Leader and up to Neilburg.
Power outages can be reported by calling 310-2220 or customers can follow up with outage information on SaskPower website or Twitter accounts.
