20 years ago: Wilkie RCMP confirmed crop circles were result of prankster

Less than a month after July 13,2003 storm, the area was blasted again with golf-ball sized hail and suspected tornadoes, resulting in much property and equipment damage

Revenue farmer Mervin Risling and family didn’t know what to think when they found crop circles in their wheat field, but Wilkie RCMP later confirmed the circles were the creation of a prankster.

The Wilkie Brewers hosted the 2003 Senior A2 provincial championships and won the final against the Mervin Flyers 4-2.

Unity Subway celebrated its grand opening.

Less than a month after the big storm of July 13, 2003, the area was pelted by Mother Nature again, this time with golf-ball-sized hail and suspected tornados. Damage included grain bins tossed on their sides, upended machinery, flattened crops, broken windows and dented vehicles.
