Dear Editor I decided to write this letter to voice my disappointment with the decision to keep the new swimming pool at six lanes, not the eight lanes the North Battleford swim club had proposed.

One of the things I am finding myself writing about too often in this column and over at the News-Optimist blog, is the crime situation in North Battleford. The crime beat is not one of my favourites.

We have made it to July, so now is as good a time as any to provide an update on what has been happening with the latest movies at the box office in North America.

Many moons ago, a friend, my wife and I were headed to Vancouver. It was our first trip there, so we were looking forward to the newness of Lotus Land. Stopping to see my aunt in Merritt, she asked if we had our umbrellas.

The vandalism that occurred during the G20 conference in Toronto was appalling. My wife and I lived in Toronto for about 10 years. It's a beautiful city. I literally wept to see the wanton destruction of stores, police vehicles, and more.

This column is coming in a little after the fact because a backload of other sports, but better late then never.

So, the G-20 and the G-8 summits are over.And what did we learn?The first thing that people will remember are the protesters. They grabbed more headlines and more photo ops than the politicians, or even the fake lake.
