NORTH BATTLEFORD - An up and down regular season for the U18 Battlefords AAA Stars has a chance to end on a significant up note this weekend.

The Stars host the Tisdale Trojans for two games this weekend at Access Communications Centre, with an opportunity to clinch a playoff position with a win.

Game times are Saturday at 4:45 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Both games were rescheduled from games cancelled Jan. 22 and 23.

The Stars enter the weekend with a one-point lead over Swift Current for the final playoff spot, with 17 wins, 21 losses and four OT losses for 38 points. Swift Current has one game left on their schedule while the Stars have two.

Meanwhile, Tisdale is playing for pride, as they sit dead last in the league standings at 5-35-0-2.

The Stars got back into the playoff race after going on an eight-game winning streak that stretched back to January. The streak ended with a Feb 19 home defeat to Notre Dame Hounds 7-2.

The Stars then dropped a 3-2 result on the road in Warman last Sunday, so they enter the weekend looking to right the ship and secure their playoff position. Should the Stars clinch this weekend, the Notre Dame would be their first round opponent, who lead the league with a 35-8-0-1 record.
