The series between the Hounds and Stars now shifts to North Battleford on Sunday night for game four.

THE BATTLEFORDS, WILCOX - The Notre Dame Hounds have gone back in front of the Battlefords Stars in their first round series in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League.

The Hounds rebounded from Monday’s loss by posting a 6-2 beating of the Stars in Wilcox on Thursday night. The win gives the Hounds a two games to one series lead with a chance to wrap it up Sunday back in North Battleford.

In the game Notre Dame dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Stars 40-25. They also scored three power play goals in a game dominated by penalties. Notre Dame had five power play opportunities while the Stars had eight, but it was the Hounds’ ability to capitalize that was the difference in the game.

Luke Marshall got things rolling in the first period for the Hounds with a power play goal, with Vincent Palmarin adding an even strength goal to make it 2-0 through one.

Goals from Ethan Look and Van Eger in the second period extended the lead to 4-0.

It took a power play goal from the Stars’ Ryan Taylor to break the shutout, but Andrew Altwasser restored the four goal lead with a power play goal of his own before the period ended.

Zane Normand’s power play goal in the third period got the Stars closer, but Palmarin’s power play goal with 46 seconds remaining finished the scoring.

Wilson Maxfield got the win in net for the Hounds.

The series now shifts back to Access Communications Centre for game five Sunday at 7:30 p.m. that night, with the Stars’ season on the line in that contest.
