THE BATTLEFORDS ‑ The Battlefords North Stars have welcomed back a familiar face to guard the net.
The club announced goaltender Austin Schwab has rejoined the team. Schwab was with the team playing 16 games in 2019-20 with a goals-against average of 2.70 and a save percentage of .916.
He then played two games with the North Stars in the much-abbreviated 2020-21 season, with a goals-against of 6.59 and save percentage of .828.
This season, Schwab had played six games with the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League, with a goals-against of 2.70 and save percentage of .879.
Schwab’s re-acquisition comes as the North Stars have been going through some recent upheaval in net.
On Monday they announced a trade involving their other goaltender, Ulrik Roussel, who had just returned to the North Stars lineup this weekend after being out for weeks due to injury.
The SJHL website confirmed that Roussel has been traded to the Campbellton Tigers of the Maritime Hockey League, for a player development fee. The move took place just prior to the SJHL's Jan. 10 trade deadline.
That move is just one week after the North Stars’ main goaltender Michael Harroch was injured in a collision in last Tuesday night's game against the Estevan Bruins. Since then, Lowen Kenyon has come in and won two games in goal for the North Stars.
The North Stars have a few days off after Tuesday's game with Nipawin was postponed due to COVID-19 problems with the Hawks. Their next game is Saturday at home to Flin Flon.
