NORTH BATTLEFORD - A Wilkie man in custody for numerous weapons counts is due back in provincial court this Thursday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. in North Battleford.
Darryll Sollosy, who faces charges in connection to an incident in June in Scott, Saskatchewan, had appeared before Judge Michelle Baldwin by video on Tuesday.
The appearance was a brief one as Sollosy indicated he had not yet applied for Legal Aid. An adjournment was granted to Thursday to allow Sollosy more time to make that application. Sollosy remains remanded in custody.
Sollosy faces charges that include assault with a weapon, careless transportation of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a prohibited firearm in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited firearm that is not registered, possession of break and enter instruments, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, failing to keep the peace while on a release order, possession of a firearm while prohibited by release order, possession of ammunition while prohibited by a release order and possession of alcohol while prohibited by a probation order.
All charges are yet to be proven in a court of law. No pleas have been entered yet in the case.
Lately, the legal proceedings have been moving at a snail's pace, with a number of brief appearances and adjournments. In court Tuesday, Crown prosecutor Chris Browne repeated his frustrations to the judge that the case was "dragging on."
The main issue has been securing counsel for Sollosy. It was noted in court Tuesday that Sollosy had already gone through three other Legal Aid lawyers as well as private counsel during his detention review. He is currently represented by Aleida Oberholzer on an interim basis while trying to secure a new lawyer.
"It seems to me we're playing games, Your Honour," said Browne.
The indication Tuesday was that Sollosy is now seeking a Court-appointed lawyer, but for that to go ahead he would need to apply and be turned down by Legal Aid first. In any event, Judge Baldwin has adjourned the matters to Thursday to allow him to make that application and see where they they stand.
