Treaty 6, Metis Nation flags raised at Town Hall

Flags were raised on the eve of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

BATTLEFORD - On the eve of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Town of Battleford has raised the Treaty 6 flag and the Metis Nation - Saskatchewan flag at Town Hall.

The flag raising took place as part of a ceremony at 9 a.m. attended by town officials including Mayor Ames Leslie, Mayor David Gillan of North Battleford, MLA Jeremy Cockrill and representatives from some surrounding First Nations including Chief Tanya Stone of Mosquito, Chief Wayne Semaganis of Little Pine and Chief James Snakeskin of Thunderchild. Students from Battleford Central School sang the national anthem.

The flag raising was something the Town had wanted to do for some time, but Mayor Ames Leslie explained it took a while to determine an appropriate time and it was determined to schedule it for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
