BATTLEFORD — The Town of Battleford is providing financial support to Concern for Youth for 2023.
Council approved a request to provide funding of $10,000 to the organization at its meeting Monday night at Town Hall. The funding approval came in advance of the town's 2023 budget, with the budget process expected to start next month.
On Monday night, council heard from Executive Director Dani Williams, who outlined the priorities of the organization.
She explained that 80 per cent of the funding would be delegated to supplementary staff for a youth engagement co-ordinator, with the other 20 per cent going to their mentorship program.
Council has provided financial support for Concern for Youth in the past, but it was noted by Mayor Ames Leslie that last year the organization had missed their deadline to submit their request, so the town had to underfund their ask. This year they made their request early to get ahead of the budget deliberations.
At the meeting Mayor Leslie noted Concern for Youth has grown immensely and has had a significant impact. “You guys are everywhere at all the community functions,” said Leslie, adding “we can sit in this room and make decisions to think that we might impact youth, but you guys live it every day.”
