Town of Battleford acquires vintage fire truck

The Fred Light Museum's replica fire hall continues to take shape, with the Town of Battleford taking ownership of a vintage 1946 fire truck as one of its exhibits.

The fire truck, which had previously been in service in the town of Battleford, was owned by the Western Development Museum in North Battleford. But with the town of Battleford on the verge of opening the replica fire hall in July, a deal was struck between the town and the WDM where ownership of the 1946 International fire truck would be transferred to the Town.

The fire truck will be one of the exhibits permanently on display in the Fred Light fire hall building when it officially opens next month. The Western Development Museum board approved the transfer of ownership at their June meeting. Confirmation of the transfer was received at town council Monday.

Mayor Chris Odishaw remarked at Monday's meeting that people might see the 1946 fire truck take part of the Battleford parade later this summer. That is scheduled for July 15. The Fred Light Museum's fire hall grand opening has been set for the following day, July 16 at 1 p.m.
