It was a fairly routine night of business for the Battleford town council Monday night, with one bylaw passed at the meeting.

A bylaw amending the Urban Fix Cost Custom Work Agreement of the Urban Highway Connector Program adopted.

The bylaw amended the method of payment from $49,986 per year to $54,974 per year. Town administrator Sheryl Ballendine told council this was an annual bylaw to adjust the payment amount, as a valuation is done every year.

As well, council passed a resolution allowing the Battlefords Boys and Girls Club to use the building located at 303 - 24th St. W. for an after school program from 3 to 6 p.m. daily throughout the school year, on a month to month basis at a rate of $300 per month.

Council has also approved the request of Heritage Christian School to close off Central Avenue between 18th and 20th Streets for their upcoming pull-cart races on June 11. Mayor Chris Odishaw is planning to be one of the participants in the race, which is part of the Family Fun Day fundraiser.

Preparations go on for the 2011 Block Party in Battleford, with council receiving correspondence from the Battleford Business Association regarding the temporary closure of 22nd Street on June 18. The Block Party runs that day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The town also received the summary of building permits for the month of May. A total of eight permits for $2,241,200 were issued in May 2011, compared to 14 for $2,143,800 in May 2010.

For the year through May 16, permits have been issued for $4,187,000 compared to 25 for $5,946,900 for the same period in 2010. The 2010 numbers include one permit issued for $3,000,000 for the water treatment plant expansion, and Mayor Odishaw said if you take out that number the numbers for this year are impressive.

Council also received administration's latest development and building permits report for June 6, which reported that five more permits had been issued in Battleford valued at $366,900.

Finally, council heard from Vinessa Currie-Foster of Clearwater Canoeing, who was there mainly to inform councillors and the town of her plans to offer more canoeing adventures and other programs in the waters around the Battlefords and area in the coming months.

Council will be holding a special budget session June 13 at 6 p.m., with the next regular scheduled council meeting June 20 at 7 p.m.
