PRINCE ALBERT — Three people have been charged in relation to the 2020 death of 20-year-old Wesley Custer.
Evan Ledoux, Curtis Ledoux and Tyson Lachance were all in custody for other reasons when they were arrested.
On the evening of Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, Wesley Custer was brought to the Shellbrook Hospital in Shellbrook with serious injuries. Custer, originally from Denare Beach, but more recently residing in the Prince Albert/Montreal Lake area, died shortly afterwards and his death was determined to be suspicious. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes took on the investigation.
The first arrest took place on May 21 of this year. Evan Ledoux, 34, was arrested on May 21 at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre and charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of Wesley Custer. He was in custody after the Saskatchewan RCMP's Crime Reduction Team and Warrant Enforcement Suppression Team had arrested him May 19 on outstanding charges from Prince Albert Police Service and Ahtahkakoop RCMP.
Ledoux had been located in a vehicle driving on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation and was arrested without incident. He was charged by Ahtahkakoop RCMP with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault and possession of property obtained by crime in relation to an assault that was reported at a residence on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation on May 6. RCMP had located an injured female at the residence, who was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries.
Following consultation with Crown Prosecution, the charges related to Custer's death were laid against Evan Ledoux. He is to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 6.
The second arrest was made on May 22. Curtis Ledoux, 42, was arrested from the Prince Albert Correctional Centre and charged with accessory after the fact to murder in relation to the death of Wesley Custer. He is to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 6.
The third arrest was made on May 25, Tyson Lachance, 23, was arrested at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre and is charged with second-degree murder in relation to the death of Wesley Custer. He appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on May 26.
