A Local State of Emergency for the City of North Battleford remains in effect until further notice following the July 22 flood.
The official number of homes with flood damage, as reported by residents to the City of North Battleford by Tuesday, is 250. There were 145 reported Thursday, 58 Friday and door-to-door checks by bylaw officers, firefighters and RCMP revealed another 47 flood affected homes.
Flooding had the largest impact on homes sporadically located between 100th Street and Territorial Drive.
Over the weekend, the City of North Battleford and a number of other agencies set up a Recovery and Relief Centre in the Don Ross Centre. The centre is closed and the City is now providing a list of options, services and contact information available to residents: Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) 1-866-632-4033; Social Services 446-7705; Victim Services 446-1550; Public Health 446-6400; City Building Standards 445-1730; SaskPower 445-1862 ; SaskEnergy 445-1811; RCMP 446-1720.
The City has been approved for Provincial Disaster Assistance (PDAP) and are accepting applications on behalf of the province. In addition to calling the toll-free number listed above, PDAP forms are available at City Hall and staff are available for assistance. Between Saturday and Tuesday afternoon, the City of North Battleford estimates 100 PDAP forms had been completed. However, that number is likely to be higher as residents may not have sought help and filed on their own.
Residents continue with the cleanup process and are being advised to take photos and make lists of discarded items. Two large dumpsters are set up for flood damaged materials only at 107th Street and 10th Avenue and at 104th Street and 18th Avenue. Back lane dumpsters are not to be used for flood damaged items. For anyone hauling to the waste management facility, it will be open during regular weekly hours but also for the next two Sundays (Aug. 1 and 8) from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Residents must inform City staff at the landfill if they are dropping off flood damaged material and keep the receipt for possible refunds.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported as a result of Thursday's flood. A Local State of Emergency was declared by Mayor Ian Hamilton at 3 p.m. July 22. City of North Battleford staff quickly put the emergency measures plan into action and set up an operations centre at North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services. The Local State of Emergency will remain in effect until further notice.
