Holiday wishes from Unity Mayor Bob Abel

Newly elected mayor wishes the community a happy holiday.

The snow is falling, the days are getting shorter, and the lights are sparkling all over town – the holidays are here! During this time of the year, I find myself reflecting on the many blessings in my life, including how fortunate I am to live in a peaceful, caring and thriving community. When I see neighbours offering each other a helping hand, celebrating the season together or taking care of one another, I am reminded of the spirit that makes our town so special.

While many of us try to do a little extra during the Christmas season to put a smile on each other’s faces, there are many individuals and organizations in our community that demonstrate the holiday spirit all year round. I’d like to recognize those who generously share their time and energy to help those in need through work with service clubs, charitable organizations or volunteering. There are many organizations in Unity, including the Food Bank, Community Resource Centre, Secret Santa, Courtesy Car and many more, that do incredible work to make our community a more inclusive, accessible and welcoming place to live, and I appreciate each and every person who contributes their time to organizations and initiatives that support their fellow residents during the holiday season and beyond.

I’d also like to thank the volunteers, businesses and participants who made this year’s Winter Wonderland evening and parade such a success. It was a wonderful evening, and it served as a reminder that the holiday season provides us an opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate the joy and traditions that unite us. I look forward to seeing the continued growth of the Winter Wonderland evening and parade in the years to come.

As we move into 2025, your newly elected town council is excited to have the opportunity to represent you over the next four years. We will be looking at financials and budgeting, efficiencies and new ideas to ensure your taxes go towards supports and services that promote growth and opportunity for you and your family. We look forward to approaching our work with a refreshed, energized vision and are committed to working in collaboration with town management, staff and taxpayers to make our community an even better place to live.

On behalf of town council, management and staff, we wish you all a very happy holiday season, a Merry Christmas and all the very best in 2025. May your holiday season be filled with peace, hope and cherished moments.
