A man faces several charges including attempted murder following a shooting incident on Thunderchild First Nation on Friday.
According to the RCMP, at around 7pm that night, members of Turtleford RCMP received a call from Turtleford Hospital that a male had been admitted with superficial non-life threatening gunshot wounds to his body.
Police attended the hospital and spoke with the victim. It was revealed through an investigation that the victim had been involved in a verbal altercation earlier that afternoon on the Thunderchild reserve. The suspect and victim later parted ways and the victim was seen walking down the road of the reserve. It was there that the same male suspect approached him and allegedly fired shots at him.
The male suspect was taken into custody that evening following a search of his residence. The suspect is Eric Patrick Cook, 25, from Thunderchild First Nation. He is charged with attempted murder, assaulting a police officer, possessing a firearm contrary to a court order, pointing a firearm, uttering threats, assaulting a peace officer and breach of an undertaking,
Cook's first appearance in court was in Lloydminster provincial court on Monday. He was held in custoday.
Police say a shotgun was seized as part of the investigation. Assisting in the investigation were members from Turtleford, St. Walburg and Glaslyn detachments, from RCMP North Battleford forensic identification section, RCMP Police dog services from Meadow Lake and the RCMP Saskatoon major crimes unit.
