Shellbrook RCMP are investigating a suspicious death that occurred over the weekend on the Ahtahakakoop First Nation.
At around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 1, Shellbrook RCMP received a call about a disturbance at a residenceon the First Nation. According to police, a patrol by a member of the Shellbrook RCMP was made to the residence. They found a 25-year-old male victim from Ahtahakakoop First Nation. He was located outside of the residence on a piece of ice inthe adjacent lake.
The RCMP member then waded into the water and retrieved the victim from the iceto the shore, with a localbystander assisting.
Vital signs were checked, and the victim was unresponsive.EMS was dispatched to the area but the victim was declared dead.
Police are reporting the death is considered suspicious. The provincial coroner and RCMPMajor Crimes out of Saskatoon are involved in investigating. Assistingis the RCMP Forensic Identification Unit from Tisdale and Prince Albert along with RCMP members from neighbouring detachments.
