NORTH BATTLEFORD - Once again, a popular outdoor movie event will mark the official end of summer in North Battleford.
The eighth annual Send Off to Summer event will be hosted in the empty lot south of the Credit Union CUplex on Friday, Sept. 10. The event is run by the city in partnership with major sponsor Innovation Credit Union, along with other sponsors Rivers West District for Sports, Culture and Recreation and Magic Lantern Theatres.
Community Programmer and Don Ross Centre Manager Siobhan Gormley said it was a great event to run and noted it could be held safely even with COVID-19.
“The vehicles pretty much stay far apart, so it’s a good opportunity for a free family fun event,” said Gormley.
Send Off to Summer has become a tradition in the city. “It’s held the same weekend every year and people look forward to it,” said Gormley.
Organizers will once again feature a free drive-in movie aimed at families. This year it is Raya and the Last Dragon.
People will be able to drive their vehicles into the lot starting at 6 p.m., with the movie to start around dusk at 8 p.m. The sound will be available on an FM frequency. There will be an empty space set up near the screen for those wishing to bring lawn chairs and get a front-row seat.
There will be food trucks on the site, with Magic Lantern Theatres providing the free popcorn.
