Saskatchewan artist Glen Scrimshaw has closed his Duck Lake studio, and many of the contents went under the auctioneer's hammer recently at Ivan White Auctions in North Battleford.

Scrimshaw and his wife Zorka, celebrating their four-month wedding anniversary, attended throughout the day, visiting with auction patrons and bidding on items consigned to the sale by other clients.

Auctioneer Ivan White said it was a pleasure working with the Scrimshaws as clients. The auction-goers appreciated their friendly presence throughout the day and willingness to provide information on items for sale. At the end of the day they received a standing ovation from the crowd.

Some of the items that sold were tremendously interesting pieces of history, and the prices fetched for them underscored their popularity, said White.

It was one of the best sales he's ever had, he added.

While Scrimshaw's Duck Lake studio is closed, the gallery of his work has moved to the Duck Lake Museum. The museum's gift shop has his work for sale.

The old studio is now home to Russell Hanson's Mounted Police Museum with gift shop, museum, antiques and powered campsites. Russell Hanson is also known as a former breeder of exotic animals.

Scrimshaw still maintains his gallery in Saskatoon.

In recent years, due to a degenerative back issue, Scrimshaw has had to cut back on his workload, but he continues to paint.
