A January date has been set for the preliminary hearing in the case of a woman accused of assaulting a victim at a care home in North Battleford.

Ashley Johnson, 24, is charged with assault and administering a noxious substance to a 20-year-old victim at a group home for those suffering severe intellectual and physical disabilities. Her counsel, appearing by conference call in provincial court in North Battleford Wednesday morning has elected trial in Queen's Bench Court by judge alone.

In advance of that trial, a preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 9, 2012 in provincial court in North Battleford. Courtroom No.2 has been booked for that preliminary hearing, which is expected to go on for the full day.

Both Crown and defence counsel appeared by conference call before Judge Brent Klause to set the date for the preliminary hearing. Johnson was not present at Wednesday's court appearance.

Johnson was arrested shortly after the allegations became known in March of this year. She was working part-time at the group home when the incidents are alleged to have taken place.
