Power Hour is happening this Friday

Four Battlefords and area leaders in attendance to take questions at annual luncheon, which is back for first time in two and a half years.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — After a two-and-a-half year hiatus the Power Hour is back on.

“The Power Hour - A Chat with our Elected Leaders” is set to go this Friday, Sept. 16 at Western Development Museum, during the noon hour.

The event is organized by the Battlefords and District Chamber of Commerce. The luncheon sponsor is accounting firm HRO Holm Raiche Oberg.

It is the first time the Power Hour event is being staged since early March 2020, just before the pandemic restrictions hit.

That inaugural event was conceived as a successor to the annual "State of the City/Town" events put on by the Chamber, and brought together federal, provincial, municipal and First Nations leaders to answer questions from the audience.

This year’s event will go ahead, but will not have a federal presence as Battlefords-Lloydminster MP Rosemarie Falk was unable to attend.

In attendance this year are Jeremy Cockrill, minister of Highways and MLA for the Battlefords; David Gillan, mayor of North Battleford; Ames Leslie, mayor of Battleford; and Cheryl Kahpeaysewat, Chief of Moosomin First Nation, representing Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs.

Of those four, only Leslie was on the stage at the last Power Hour. This marks the first appearances for MLA Cockrill, Mayor Gillan and Chief Kahpeaysewat since being elected to their positions.

The chamber is inviting their members to let them know what their number one business issue or concern is. People are encouraged to email the chamber at [email protected] by the end of day Thursday, Sept. 15, with their response to this question, and any other questions, concerns or issues they would like addressed by panelists at the Power Hour.
